Coaching Staff

Offensive Coordinator - Joe Beschorner, a 2000 Simpson College graduate, returns to his alma mater for his first season as the offensive coordinator. Beschorner comes back to Simpson from South Dakota, where for the past four seasons, Beschorner was the running backs coach and was the recruiting coordinator for the Coyotes. From 2000-02, Beschorner was a member of the coaching staff at Minnesota State University-Mankato. From 2000-01, he was a graduate assistant for the Mavericks program. Among his duties was monitoring the academic progress of players, working with the strength and conditioning program and recruiting. In 2002, he also was the running backs coach and was a human performance instructor at MSU-Mankato. Beschorner was a member of the Simpson squads that won the 1996 and 1997 Iowa Conference Championships. The 1997 Storm squad won the NCAA Division III West Region Championship and advance to the semifinals of the national tournament. He holds the school record for longest interception return, a 99-yarder for a touchdown that was set during the 1997 national playoffs.

Co-Defensive Coordinator/Special Teams - Mike Cordes  is in his first season on the Simpson staff. Cordes comes to Simpson from NCAA Division II Wayne State (Neb.). Cordes will be the co-defensive coordinator with Glogowski and will serve as the special teams coordinator. Cordes was a member of the Wildcats' staff for the past three years where he was the defensive back coach and special teams coordinator. In 2005, Cordes' special teams at Wayne State were first in the Northern Sun Conference in kickoff coverage, allowing just 11.3 yards per kick return. WSC also ranked first in kickoff returns with a 20.7 average. Cordes began his coaching career at the University of South Dakota where he was a graduate assistant and worked with the defensive backs and linebackers. Cordes began his playing career at Wayne State in 1997, making 73 tackles. Transferring to Nebraska-Kearney in time for the 1998 season, Cordes lettered three times for the Lopers, helping Kearney win a Rocky Mountain Conference title and earn a spot in the 2002 NCAA Division II Football Championships as a senior. Cordes ended his career with 243 tackles and 12 sacks. He earned first team All-Conference honors as a senior and was chosen second team All-Conference as a junior.

Offensive Assistant - Kevin Ferguson is in his fifth season at his alma mater.  For the past five seasons he has coached linebackers and kickers.  During the 2007 season Ferguson served as the co-defensive coordinator.  For the 2008 season his duties have switched to coaching the offensive line.

While at Simpson, Ferguson has coached five All-Conference linebackers and one, two time All-Conference kicker.   In 2003, Ferguson coached on a team that went to the first round of the NCAA DIII National playoffs, finishing the season 9-2.  The Newton, Iowa native was a four year letter winner for the Storm as he charted 189 tackles and was twice selected as Academic All-Conference.  Ferguson was a member of the Simpson squad that won the Iowa Conference Championship in 1997, the same squad that advanced to the NCAA DIII National Semi-Final.  Ferguson was also a three year letter winner in track and field.  Following graduation, Ferguson was a teacher, assistant football coach and strength coach for Norwalk High School in Norwalk, Iowa from 2001-03.  Ferguson is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).  Ferguson‚s additional duties include video coordinator as well as the meet manager for Simpson‚s home track & field meets.
