Defensive Coaching Staff
Mike Cordes
Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers Coach
Cordes enters his fourth season with the Storm in 2011, serving as defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator. In his first year, Simpson led the league in total defense as Luke and Tim Stover earned first team all-conference honors.
Cordes came to Simpson from Wayne State College, where he spent three seasons as a defensive backs coach and special teams coordinator for the Wildcats. Prior to Wayne State, Cordes was a graduate assistant at the University of South Dakota.
Cordes completed his playing career at Nebraska-Kearney, earning All-Rocky Mountain Conference honors in 2001 and 2002. Mike, his wife, Chelsea and daughter, Avery reside in Indianola.
Paul Davis
Defensive Line
The 2011 season marks Davis' ninth as the defensive line coach at Simpson. During his first stint with the Storm, four Simpson defensive linemen earned six all-conference awards. Three of those players earned All-Amierca honors: Jason Ripke in 2004 and 2005 and BJ Bengard and Dustin Schelling in 2006.
Prior to his tenure at Simpson, Davis spent time at Drake University and Carlisle High School.
An Iowa State graduate, Paul and his wife Susan have two sons, Tim and Kevin. The couple resides in Carlisle, Iowa.
Luke Bentley
Defensive Line
The 2011 season marks Bentley's first as an assistant on the Simpson football staff, where he coaches the defensive line. Prior to joining the staff, Bentley began coaching in the Des Moines Public Schools. Most recently, Bentley coached running backs for the Des Moines Blaze semi-pro football team, which went 12-0 in 2011 and won a national championship.
Luke resides in Pleasant Hill with his wife, Tania, and daughters Kayla and Abby.
Hemie Collier
Defensive Backs
Collier enters his second season on the Simpson staff in 2011, where he will coach the defensive backs and serve as a diversity recruiter for the college.
Prior to Simpson, Collier coached defensive backs at Cornell College for the 2008 season. Collier attended Luther College, graduating with a degree in history in 2007. He played football for three seasons with the Norse, splitting time as a wide receiver and a cornerback.
Travis Mokate
Linebackers
Mokate enters his second season on the Simpson staff in 2011, coaching the linebackers. He is a 2010 graduate of Oklahoma University, where he received his bachelors in business administration. Prior to attending Oklahoma, Mokate spent six years in the Marine Corps. He resides in West Des Moines, Iowa.
