James Hoffman  |  Defensive Backs

The 2015 season marks Hoffman's ninth on the Simpson staff and third as a full-time assistant. He will coach the defensive backs this season, having previously coached running backs and receivers.

After serving as an assitant coach in a part-time role for six seasons, Hoffman joined the staff as a full-time member on July 22, 2013.

Hoffman has coached four all-conference receivers since taking over in 2012, including first teamer and all-region performer Brad Vogel in 2013. He also coaches the sprinters on the track and field team.

Hoffman began coaching the Storm in 2006 as a student assistant. He lettered three times for Simpson from 2003-05 as a defensive back for the Storm.

Before joining the Simpson staff full-time in 2013, Hoffman spent the previous 10 years as an assistant track and field coach at Roosevelt High School in Des Moines. There, he coached sprints, relays and high jump for the boys' program. He helped Roosevelt win conference championships in 11 of the last 12 seasons and a district championship in 2005.

Hoffman graduated from Simpson in 2005 with a degree in sports administration.

James resides in Des Moines with his wife, Kasey (a former Simpson softball player), and daughters Kameryn and Kourtney.

Ted Haag  |  Linebackers

After a successful playing career for the Storm, Ted Haag enters his second season as an assistant coach in 2015. This season he makes the switch from linebackers to the defensive line.

Haag was a four-year letterwinner at linebacker for the Storm, earning second team all-conference honors as a senior in 2013. He served as a team captain in 2013 and graduated with a double major in management and economics.

Tim Lone  |  Defensive Line

The 2015 season marks Tim Lone’s fourth as an assistant coach for Simpson, where he works with the defensive line.

No stranger to Storm Football, Lone was a student coach for the Red and Gold from 2007 to 2009 and was a member of the team in 2006. The last two seasons he served as an offensive and defensive line coach at Dowling Catholic High School.

Lone graduated from Simpson in 2010 with majors in journalism and mass communications. He and his wife Megan reside in Des Moines.

Johnnie Sims  |  Defensive Line

A standout defensive lineman during his playing days, Johnnie Sims begins his first season on the Storm coaching staff in 2015. A 2014 graduate of Simpson, Sims was a two-year letterwinner and two-time all-Iowa Conference performer as a defensive end. He finished his career with 10 sacks, including seven as a junior in 2012.
