George Love | Defensive Coordinator/Corners
George Love enters his first season with the Storm football program in 2019 as an assistant coach and the defensive coordinator.
Love joins the staff after spending the last three seasons as the special teams coordinator and linebackers coach at Angelo State University. Prior to there, he served in the same role and was also the secondary coach at Millersville University from 2013-15.
During the 2011 season, Love was the linebackers coach at his alma mater, Eastern Illinois University. Love had a two-year stint as the outside linebackers coach at the University of North Dakota from 2009-10. He served as a graduate assistant at Northwest Missouri State University from 2007-08 and was a student assistant at Eastern Illinois in 2006.
Love played four seasons for the Panthers in 2002-05 in their secondary as a safety and cornerback. While in uniform, Eastern Illinois won two Ohio Valley Conference titles and made it the NCAA Division FCS Tournament, but fell in the first round on both occasions. He was a ball hawk for the Panthers and was tied for first on the team in 2002 and 2003 in interceptions.
The St. Louis, Mo. native graduated in 2007 from Eastern Illinois with a bachelors degree in general studies.
Love currently resides in Indianola, Iowa with his wife, Clemente' and their two children, George III and Cruze.
Braendon Tovey | Linebackers/Special Teams Coordinator
Braedon Tovey begins his first season as an assistant football coach and special teams coordinator for Simpson in 2019.
Tovey is no stranger to Storm football, as he earned three letters as a quarterback from 2013-15.
Tovey joins the staff from Hastings College, where he was the offensive graduate assistant since 2017. The year before, Tovey was a student assistant for the Storm in 2016.
In 2016, he earned a degree in psychology from Simpson. From there, he received a masters of teaching in K-12 physical education from Hastings.
A native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Tovey currently resides in West Des Moines.
Brent Parrott | Safeties
Brent Parrott is a 1998 graduate from Simpson College. As a two-time All-IIAC player at safety, Parrott helped the Storm to a perfect 10-0 regular season in 1996, while earning American Football Coaches Association All-American First Team honors. Parrott was inducted as a member of the Simpson College Hall of Fame in 2013.
The 2019 Simpson football season will mark Parrott's ninth as an assistant football coach for the Storm. He originally served on Jim Williams staff from 1997-2001, working with both safeties and outside linebackers. In 2002 Parrott moved on to high school football, serving as Hoover High School’s defensive coordinator. From there, he coached at Martensdale-St Marys High School in the same capacity from 2003-2008, later becoming MSTM’s head coach from 2009-2015. In that twelve-year time span, MSTM made the playoffs four times, and developed 13 all-state players.
Parrott returned to the Simpson staff in 2015. In Parrott’s most recent stretch as the safeties coach, he has had six players receive all-conference honors and one receive All-Region recognition.
Coach Parrott is a middle school teacher for Des Moines Public Schools, and currently resides in Indianola with his wife Jaime. They have four children, Madison, Anna, Emma and Connor.
